The Philippines is being recognized as a potential frontrunner in climate action and methane emission reduction in Southeast Asia.
This was highlighted by Ambassador Lee Jang-keum of South Korea during the launch of the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation for Methane Mitigation (AKCMM) project.
The $20 million initiative, spanning three years, aims to develop a roadmap for methane mitigation across all 10 ASEAN countries, with the Philippines playing a central role.
The project is being implemented in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute and the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
According to the United Nations, cutting methane emissions—particularly from livestock—is the fastest and most cost-effective way to slow global warming in the near term.
