The Philippines has officially secured market access to export fresh durian to Egypt, following nearly two years of negotiations.
The Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) announced the milestone on May 18, emphasizing the country’s compliance with international plant health and safety standards.
Exporters must coordinate with Egyptian importers to secure permits through Egypt’s agricultural quarantine system, after which the BPI will issue phytosanitary certificates for pest-free shipments.
This development is part of the Department of Agriculture’s broader push to diversify agricultural exports.
Egypt, seen as a gateway to the Middle East and North Africa, is experiencing rising demand for tropical fruits, with Philippine agricultural exports to the country nearly doubling in 2023.
