President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. welcomed ASEAN’s decision to refrain from retaliating against new U.S. tariffs, calling it a show of unity and commitment to rules-based global trade.
Speaking at the 46th ASEAN Summit, Marcos stressed that collaboration is key amid rising geopolitical tensions, climate change, and disruptive trade practices.
He urged ASEAN partners to scale up climate finance to help the region, one of the most vulnerable to climate change, build resilient and secure communities.
Marcos also reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to combating tech-driven human trafficking, advocating stronger regional cooperation and intelligence-sharing.
The President emphasized the country’s leadership role in climate action and its continued dialogue with the U.S. to address the impacts of the new trade policy.
