PHILIPPINES AND SINGAPORE DEEPEN SECURITY COOPERATION

The Philippines and Singapore held the 6th Philippines-Singapore Defense Policy Dialogue (DPD) in Manila from July 19 to 20, 2023.

The two defense ministries discussed recent security developments in the region and future initiatives that they could pursue through bilateral and multilateral platforms.

Singapore commended the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for its counter-terrorism operations, which helped to create a conducive environment for the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Singapore also expressed interest in learning from the Philippines’ best practices on counter-terrorism.

The Philippines responded by expressing its interest in chairing the Counter-Terrorism Information Facility (CTIF) in 2024.

The CTIF was initiated by Singapore to strengthen regional intelligence capabilities to monitor and deter terrorist activities through research and analysis, and information-sharing.

The DPD was a productive meeting that highlighted the strong defense and security ties between the Philippines and Singapore.

The two countries are committed to working together to address common security challenges in the region.
