The Philippines and Montenegro have agreed to strengthen their ties in the tourism industry.
This was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic of Montenegro and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace.
President Marcos highlighted the significance of tourism for the Philippines and expressed interest in adopting successful strategies from Montenegro’s tourism industry.
Prime Minister Abazovic commended President Marcos for his efforts in attracting more tourists and investors to the Philippines.
The Prime Minister’s visit to the Philippines is also to show support for the Montenegro Men’s National Basketball Team, which is currently competing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Enrique Manalo of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Secretary Adelio Angelito Cruz, the Presidential Adviser on Foreign Affairs and Chief of Presidential Protocol, as well as other officials from the DFA Office of European Affairs.
The Philippines and Montenegro established diplomatic relations on September 26, 2009, and the Honorary Consulate of Montenegro in Manila was officially opened on December 12, 2018.
