Lawmakers have approved a significant increase in the budget for financial assistance to local government units (LGUs) for 2025, raising the allocation to nearly P19 billion, more than triple the initial P5 billion proposed by the Marcos administration.
The funds will support a variety of projects, including agriculture, infrastructure, disaster response, and assistance for indigent families.
In addition, LGUs can use the budget for programs related to local arts, women-led enterprises, and public health, among others, with disbursements subject to government procurement and auditing rules.
The Department of Budget and Management will issue guidelines for the fund’s release, ensuring proper utilization.
Meanwhile, the administration’s request for an increase in the budget for the anti-communist task force’s barangay program was denied, with Congress approving only P1.95 billion for 2025.
