The national 3×3 basketball program received a boost with the recent launch of MelMac Sports in Imus, Cavite, a new facility aimed at supporting both 3×3 and 5-on-5 basketball development.
Owned by Mel Macasaquit, the sports hub is also designed to cater to other disciplines such as pickleball, tennis, and volleyball, with plans to meet international standards through upgraded courts and FIBA-certified equipment.
Although still under development, the facility is already positioned as a training ground for athletes aiming to compete at global levels, including preparations for major tournaments like the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Macasaquit said the project evolved from a simple office idea into a broader initiative to share experience gained from working with national teams and sports programs.
Officials from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas welcomed the development, noting the importance of expanding sports infrastructure beyond Metro Manila to support grassroots growth.
