The National Privacy Commission (NPC) reported that 42 million people were affected by last year’s cyberattacks on the data systems of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).
During a House Committee on Appropriations meeting, NPC Director Maria Theresita Patula confirmed the extent of the breach, emphasizing PhilHealth’s responsibility to inform affected individuals about the incident and protective measures.
PhilHealth Chief Operating Officer Eli Santos stated that the agency has implemented measures to notify those affected.
The committee requested a status report from PhilHealth detailing the breach, the data involved, and how affected individuals can protect themselves.
Santos noted that PhilHealth experiences daily hacking attempts, but their current system prevents further attacks.
