The Philippine women’s handball team pulled off a stunning upset over three-time champion Brazil, 14-26, 23-22, 7-6, at the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships in Croatia.
The victory kept the Filipinas’ podium and quarterfinal hopes alive while marking their first-ever win over a world champion in the tournament.
Zhalyn Mateo led the team with 16 points, while Aurora Adriano and Josephine Ong provided key support in the comeback win.
The Philippines improved to a 1-3 record in the main draw after finishing the opening stage with a 1-2 mark.
