The Philippine Embassy in Washington is coordinating with US authorities following reports that Filipino seafarers were denied entry at US ports in recent months.
The embassy confirmed that these denials were made in accordance with US laws but pledged to continue engaging with the US Department of State and Department of Homeland Security to ensure proper consular notification.
Some affected seafarers reportedly lost their jobs after being detained and deported, an issue now being handled by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
Senator Raffy Tulfo raised the matter with outgoing US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson after testimonies revealed that seafarers were subjected to invasive mobile phone inspections by ICE officers.
The embassy and DMW remain committed to assisting Filipino seafarers affected by these incidents.
