The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced plans to expand communication channels between the Philippines and China regarding maritime issues in the South China Sea, involving presidential representatives and top diplomats.
The “Arrangement on Improving Philippines-China Maritime Communication Mechanisms” will establish direct communication paths through designated representatives of both presidents and between the DFA and China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Once finalized, this arrangement will also facilitate communication between the Philippine Coast Guard and the Chinese Coast Guard, aimed at preventing incidents similar to the recent Ayungin Shoal encounter.
