PH AIR FORCE COMPLETES BLACK HAWK HELICOPTER ACQUISITION

The Philippine Air Force is set to receive the final seven of its 32 S-70i Black Hawk helicopters from Poland, completing a major acquisition under the country’s military modernization program.

The additional aircraft are expected to strengthen the PAF’s capabilities in troop transport, search and rescue, medical evacuation, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and other critical operations.

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. also said the Philippines plans to expand its unmanned capabilities, including the acquisition and development of more drones for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

The proposed modernization program for 2027 includes P50 billion for new defense capabilities, while the Department of National Defense is seeking a 6.3% increase in its overall budget.

The expansion comes as the Philippines shifts greater attention toward external defense amid rising tensions in the South China Sea and seeks stronger technology, communications, and operational capabilities.
