From June 2024 to May 2025, a total of 85,183 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released nationwide through enhanced paralegal services by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported.
Releases included 11,139 PDLs granted good conduct time allowance, 8,280 on probation, 23 on parole, and 8,825 on bail.
Additionally, 15,085 PDLs were transferred to other facilities to ensure proper custodial management.
The report also showed 5,667 cases permanently dismissed, 6,342 provisionally dismissed, 7,431 acquittals, and 16,311 who completed their sentences.
The BJMP’s paralegal program plays a crucial role in reducing jail congestion by facilitating timely legal access for qualified detainees.
