Sen. Francis Pangilinan called on Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and his allies to accept the leadership of Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian following the Senate’s recent reorganization, saying the new majority has been recognized by key institutions, including the Executive branch and the Senate’s depositary bank.
Pangilinan said the 12-member bloc supporting Gatchalian now holds legitimate authority under constitutional rules and Senate jurisprudence after a quorum-based plenary session on June 3.
He noted that the shift in numbers followed key defections and changes in bloc alignment, weakening Cayetano’s group.
The senator urged unity and cooperation, saying continued resistance would only delay legislative work.
He added that legal and institutional recognition of Gatchalian’s leadership should settle the dispute.
