President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called for a thorough study of the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP) to prevent hardships on jeepney drivers and operators.
This follows Transport Secretary Vince Dizon’s assessment that the current form of the PTMP is not viable.
Marcos emphasized the need to avoid forcing implementation that could negatively impact drivers and operators, urging careful preparation and cooperation among all stakeholders.
Key concerns discussed include managing cooperatives, securing affordable vehicles from more suppliers, and ensuring drivers can handle loan interests.
Despite these challenges, the government affirmed that the modernization program will proceed, but with proper groundwork and support for those affected.
