Pakistan’s army reported a revised death toll of 40 civilians and 11 soldiers killed in last week’s intense cross-border conflict with India, the deadliest clash between the two nuclear-armed nations since 1999.
The four-day exchange of missile, drone, and artillery strikes ended with a ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed Washington brokered the truce.
Pakistan accused India of “unprovoked” attacks, while India blamed Pakistan for backing a deadly April 22 attack in Kashmir and vowed further retaliation if provoked.
Both sides continue to trade accusations, but the ceasefire has held since the weekend.
The international community expressed concern over the escalation, with Trump warning that millions could have died had nuclear war erupted.
