Malacañang has proposed a P50-billion budget for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) modernization program for 2025, a 25% increase from the P40 billion allocated for 2024.
This funding is designated for upgrading military hardware and systems to enhance national defense capabilities.
Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel highlighted that the increased budget reflects Congress’s commitment to military modernization.
The Department of National Defense (DND) will defend the budget proposal before the House Committee on Appropriations on August 29.
Recent releases include P6 billion for missile corvettes ordered from South Korea, set for delivery in 2025 and 2026.
