The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) condemned the attack in Basilan that killed two soldiers and injured 12 others during a peace mission on January 22.
The soldiers were securing UNDP personnel working on a development project in Sumisip town when lawless armed men carried out the attack.
OPAPRU Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. called the act a deliberate attempt to derail Basilan’s progress toward peace and urged the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to investigate the alleged involvement of its members.
Galvez assured residents of the government’s commitment to justice and security, deploying peace mechanisms to ease tensions and ensure an impartial investigation.
He extended condolences to the families of the slain soldiers, honoring their sacrifice for peace.
