Quezon City experienced record-breaking rainfall on Saturday, causing severe flooding in several districts.
Project NOAH Executive Director Mahar Lagmay reported an accumulated 141 mm of rain, with 121 mm falling in just one hour—surpassing the 90 mm/hr peak recorded during Typhoon Ondoy.
Most of the rain fell between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., overwhelming the city’s drainage system.
The local government said 36 of 142 barangays in districts 1, 3, and 4 were affected, including areas not usually prone to flooding.
Officials stressed that the intense downpour, despite the absence of a storm, highlighted the need for stronger flood control measures.
