OMBUDSMAN SET TO FILE PLUNDER CASE AGAINST MARCOLETA OVER UNDECLARED DONATIONS

The Office of the Ombudsman is preparing to file a plunder case before the Sandiganbayan against Senator Rodante Marcoleta over his alleged failure to declare P75 million in campaign donations, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Monday.

Former lawmaker Mike Defensor and other individuals are also expected to be included in the case.

Ombudsman investigators alleged that Marcoleta received P75 million in donations in January 2025 while serving as a congressman, which they said could constitute plunder, indirect bribery, and violations of Presidential Decree 46.

Marcoleta and Defensor have denied the allegations, insisting that no illegal or corrupt transactions took place.

The anti-graft court had earlier issued a precautionary hold departure order against Marcoleta, Defensor, and two businessmen linked to the donations.
