Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla has launched an investigation into a ₱100-million bank transfer allegedly involving a top contractor and two sitting congressmen, flagged as a suspicious transaction by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC).
The probe forms part of a broader inquiry into the 15 contractors identified by President Marcos as top recipients of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) flood control contracts.
Remulla said the Ombudsman, AMLC, and NBI will conduct a fact-finding investigation based on over 100 bank statements turned over by AMLC.
Meanwhile, Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste returned his salary and office budget, protesting what he described as inflated DPWH project costs.
Leviste, who opposed the proposed ₱6.79-trillion 2026 national budget, called for a 25% reduction in DPWH project costs to curb an estimated ₱150 billion in potential kickbacks.
