The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered the preventive suspension of Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson Monalisa Dimalanta amid an ongoing investigation into administrative charges filed against her by the consumer group National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms Inc. (NASECORE).
The six-month suspension, without pay, is effective until the administrative investigation concludes, unless delayed by Dimalanta herself.
The suspension was deemed necessary as initial evidence suggests strong indications of guilt, and aims to prevent further potential misconduct.
NASECORE’s complaint alleges that Dimalanta allowed Meralco to purchase electricity at higher prices from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market and pass these costs to consumers without the required ERC approval.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin has been directed to implement the suspension order.
