Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will soon receive free annual medical check-ups funded by the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) AKSYON Fund to ensure their health and well-being while abroad and before returning home.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac announced the plan during a Senate inquiry addressing concerns over irregularities in pre-employment medical exams and abusive practices by some clinics.
The initiative will include routine health monitoring throughout deployment and before repatriation.
Senator Raffy Tulfo urged the DMW to formalize the program with the Department of Health to regulate medical clinics and prevent exploitation.
The DMW also pledged to investigate and sanction private recruitment agencies involved in malpractice related to medical clearances.
