Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas-Chu has sparked controversy by refusing to allocate larger office space for Vice Mayor Lady Julie Grace “Love” Baronda in the new Legislative Building.
Despite a July 1 meeting aimed at reconciliation, Treñas-Chu prioritized office spaces for her executive assistants and appointees, escalating tensions on July 2.
The mayor cited a 2025 memorandum from her father, former Mayor Jerry Treñas, designating the sixth floor for the Vice Mayor’s office, but this floor also houses the City Council’s Secretariat and Supply Office.
Baronda, as the presiding officer of the City Council, insisted that her position deserves respect and that the sixth floor is insufficient space.
In response, Treñas-Chu issued a memorandum renaming the building as a multi-purpose facility, asserting her sole authority over office assignments, deepening the political dispute.
