Philippine government agencies issued warnings against any actions that threaten the country’s territorial integrity, following calls for renewed independence efforts in Mindanao. Former President Duterte and Rep. Alvarez have recently voiced support for such a campaign.
Defense Secretary Teodoro Jr. emphasized the military’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and protecting national territory, “both externally and internally.” The Department of Justice declared its strong opposition to any secession attempts, calling them “contrary to democratic principles.”
Police Gen. Acorda confirmed authorities are monitoring individuals advocating for separation and expressed confidence in the police force’s opposition to such movements. He highlighted the sacrifices made for national unity and the importance of maintaining peace.
This follows a similar warning from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, emphasizing the detrimental impact secession would have on years of efforts to build a stronger national union.
