Filipina boxer Aira Villegas advanced to the next round of the women’s 50 kg boxing at the Paris Olympics after a unanimous victory over Morocco’s Yasmine Mouttaki on Monday morning Manila time.
Despite both fighters delivering relentless punches throughout the bout, Villegas secured the win with all five judges favoring her performance.
Four judges scored the match 29-28, while one gave a 30-27 score.
Villegas’ strategic combinations and a decisive left punch in the final seconds proved crucial.
She will face Algeria’s Roumaysa Boualam in the round of 16 early Friday morning Manila time.
