Starting in 2025, retiring village officials in Cebu City will receive a retirement gratuity pay of PHP3,000 to PHP5,000 per year of service, as part of a new ordinance passed by the city council.
Mayor Alvin Garcia, who authored the ordinance, emphasized that the retirement package is a way to recognize the contributions of these officials serving in the city’s 80 villages.
Under the ordinance, barangay captains will receive PHP5,000 per year of service, while councilors will receive PHP3,000.
In addition to the retirement benefits, Garcia announced an increase in financial assistance for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), raising the support from PHP1 million to PHP2 million for each of the youth councils.
Furthermore, the mayor indicated that honorarium-based barangay employees will also receive a Christmas bonus, which is included in Supplemental Budget No. 3 currently being considered by the city council.
