Construction has begun on a new P9.8-million hanging bridge in Sitio Pantal, Barangay Latbang, Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, replacing a damaged crossing destroyed by Super Typhoon Pepito in 2024.
The project, led by Nueva Vizcaya Rep. Timothy Joseph Cayton and the Department of Public Works and Highways, aims to provide residents with safer access to schools, health centers, markets, and other essential services.
The damaged bridge gained national attention after videos showed students risking their lives by crossing the unsafe structure to attend classes.
Funded under the 2026 General Appropriations Act through the SIPAG program, the new bridge is designed to be safer and more resilient.
Officials said the project will improve education, emergency response, and the delivery of government services to the remote community.
