NEW LAW PROVIDES FREE PHILHEALTH COVERAGE FOR SINGLE PARENTS

Single parents in the Philippines are now eligible for free coverage under the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) thanks to the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act (Republic Act 11861).

According to PhilHealth’s Circular 2024-0020, solo parents and their children will be automatically included in the National Health Insurance Program, with the solo parent enrolled as a principal member under the “indirect contributor” membership type.

To be registered as indirect contributors, solo parents must possess a valid solo parent identification card (SPIC) issued by their local government unit.

PhilHealth will provide a revised membership registration form to reflect the new membership type and subtype for solo parents.

Camarines Rep. LRay Villafuerte, the lead author of RA 11861, emphasized the importance of this initiative in enhancing coverage and benefits for single parents and their families.
