The $893-million Malampaya Phase 4 (MP4) drilling project in offshore Palawan is progressing steadily and is on track for completion by November 2025, according to the Department of Energy (DOE).
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin expressed optimism about discovering new gas reserves, calling the initiative a high-stakes but hopeful investment for the country’s energy security.
The project includes drilling three wells—Camago-3, Malampaya East-1, and the new exploration field Bagong Pag-asa-1.
Malampaya supplies about 20% of Luzon’s electricity and is the country’s only indigenous gas source, with the operating contract extended to 2039.
Prime Energy and its partners aim to bring a new gas supply online by 2026 to sustain national power needs.
