Maris Racal, a prominent Kapamilya actress, is set to star in the upcoming film “Sunshine,” which delves into the issue of teen pregnancy.
Directed by Antoinette Jadaone and produced by ANIMA Studios and Project 8 Projects, the movie follows the journey of a young gymnast who discovers her pregnancy just before national team tryouts.
Along the way, she encounters a mysterious girl who shares similarities with her. This marks Racal’s third collaboration with Jadaone, following their successful projects “Simula Sa Gitna” and “The Kangks Show.”
In an exclusive interview with Deadline, Jadaone emphasized the importance of shedding light on taboo topics like teen pregnancy, given the rising cases in the Philippines.
Bianca Balbuena, ANIMA’s general manager, praised the film for boldly addressing societal demands and womanhood complexities.
Currently in post-production, “Sunshine” promises to resonate with audiences as it navigates sensitive themes. Racal’s dedication to her role was evident as she studied gymnastics for her character, as revealed in her past “Magandang Buhay” guesting.
