A recent OCTA Research survey revealed that a majority of Filipinos oppose the legalization of divorce, with 57 percent of respondents rejecting the proposal.
The survey, conducted from June 26 to July 1, showed a 6-percent increase in opposition from last year, with the highest opposition in Balanced Luzon at 61 percent.
Despite this, there is significant support for divorce in specific circumstances, such as for abused spouses or those already separated, with 95 percent agreeing on the need for such provisions.
Additionally, 55 percent of respondents indicated they would not vote for a candidate who supports divorce legalization.
The survey also highlighted regional and socioeconomic variations in attitudes towards divorce and political candidates’ positions on the issue.
