Business name registrations with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) rose 7% year-on-year to 916,523 from January to September, reflecting continued business expansion in the Philippines.
Nearly 86% of the applications were for new businesses, while wholesale and retail trade accounted for the largest share of registrations.
Calabarzon recorded the most applications with 165,909, followed by the National Capital Region with 128,976 and Central Luzon with 124,143.
However, September registrations fell nearly 7% to 68,677, with an economist citing slower economic growth, elevated inflation, and weather-related disruptions as possible factors.
Despite these challenges, increased economic activity during the holiday season may create more business opportunities in the fourth quarter, although rising food and energy costs could affect new business openings.
