The Bureau of Customs (BoC) announced the installation of advanced X-ray machines and body scanners at the country’s international airports to strengthen border security.
Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said the new Rapiscan 920CT X-ray machines and Tek84 Intercept body scanners would improve the detection of illegal items, including drugs.
The enhanced equipment recently helped intercept a South African drug mule attempting to smuggle 6.2 kilos of methamphetamine worth P42.1 million.
Rubio emphasized that transnational syndicates continue to use Philippine ports for drug smuggling, but BoC agents are actively disrupting these criminal networks.
In April, BoC seized P218.48 million worth of meth from a Zimbabwean drug mule.
