MINDANAO REBELS ‘NEUTRALIZED,’ SAYS PRESIDENT MARCOS

President Marcos commended government forces in Mindanao for significantly reducing the threat posed by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and other state enemies.

During his visit to the 11th Infantry Division in Jolo, Sulu, on July 5, he praised the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for their efforts.

Still, he emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant as the mission is incomplete. Marcos noted that the capabilities of the ASG have been severely diminished, with the group now operating only as individual actors rather than units.

He also highlighted the diminished threat from other terrorist groups inspired by Al Qaeda or ISIS.

Additionally, Marcos discussed the AFP’s shift to external defense, particularly in the West Philippine Sea, and the creation of a task force to strengthen the Philippine Coast Guard’s presence in the area.
