The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Metro Manila Council (MMC) discussed a proposal to implement an all-day ban on inner street parking to reduce road congestion across the metropolis.
The meeting, led by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, aims to maintain cleared roads and ensure safe, continuous access for all road users, aligning with President Marcos Jr.’s directive.
The ban would apply primarily to secondary and tertiary roads, while major thoroughfares like EDSA would maintain a strict no-parking policy.
A technical working group (TWG) will review the feasibility of the proposal, considering each city’s specific conditions, with a final plan expected by September 1.
While mayors generally support the initiative, some raised concerns about the practicality of a total ban on less busy streets, highlighting the need for a balanced, mapped-out approach.
