MERALCO BIDS ₱1.5 BILLION FOR CAMP JOHN HAY POWER MANAGEMENT

Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has submitted a ₱1.5-billion unsolicited proposal to modernize power management at Camp John Hay, including placing overhead power lines underground.

Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Joshua Bingcang said negotiations are underway and expected to conclude by year-end, followed by a Swiss challenge for competing offers.

The project aims to improve power services and enhance the tourist destination’s appearance as Camp John Hay prepares to attract more investments.

Meanwhile, the BCDA will invest up to ₱80 million to upgrade the property’s water system, increasing capacity by 700 cubic meters per day to address water pressure problems.

The agency is also preparing to bid out long-term operations and maintenance contracts for John Hay Hotels, requiring around ₱1 billion, and John Hay Golf, which needs at least ₱500 million for improvements.
