Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian declared a state of calamity on July 24 due to severe flooding caused by the southwest monsoon and tropical storms Crising, Dante, and Emong.
The city council approved the declaration following recommendations from disaster officials and affected barangays, enabling faster use of disaster funds and aid distribution.
Over 9,000 residents have been rescued and evacuated to temporary shelters, with emergency teams providing ongoing food and medical assistance.
The local government also launched free ride services for commuters in flood-hit areas while maintaining a high alert for more rain.
Mayor Gatchalian urged residents to stay alert and cooperate as recovery and relief efforts continue.
