The Manila city government, led by Mayor Honey Lacuna, confirmed on Sunday that the Manila Zoo will remain at its current Malate location, dismissing any plans for relocation.
Mayor Lacuna emphasized that future efforts will focus on modernizing and effectively managing the zoo while respecting its sentimental value to Manila residents and Filipinos nationwide.
This decision comes in response to Sen. Francis Tolentino’s proposal to relocate the zoo to Masungi Georeserve Park in Baras, Rizal, citing improved animal habitats.
Lacuna reiterated that relocation is not being considered, emphasizing the city’s commitment to awaiting crucial legislative changes and involving experts in planning the zoo’s future development.
The city expressed gratitude to Tolentino for his interest, noting ongoing reflections following the recent passing of Mali, the beloved elephant.
