Bamban Mayor Alice Guo petitioned the Supreme Court on Wednesday to halt the Senate from compelling her to testify in hearings regarding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (Pogos), citing threats to her life, liberty, and security.
Guo sought to invalidate a Senate subpoena ordering her appearance at a July 10 hearing, where she was held in contempt for non-attendance.
The controversy arose after a Pogo hub in Bamban was raided, implicating Guo due to her connections with the facility.
Her legal team argued that the Senate committee, chaired by Senator Risa Hontiveros, violated Guo’s constitutional rights by not allowing her sufficient opportunity to defend herself and by exposing her personal information, leading to public ridicule and threats.
