Filipino boxer Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo dominated his super featherweight debut in Long Beach, California, securing a vital third-round knockout against Mexico’s Isaac Avelar on Saturday. The victory broke Magsayo’s two-fight losing streak at the “New Blood Card” by CBN Promotions.
Expressing gratitude, Magsayo said, “I’ve been thankful to God for bringing me strength. Sa lahat ng mga Filipinos na sumusuporta, maraming, maraming salamat. Sa mga hindi naniniwala, okay lang.”
The former featherweight world champion aggressively pressured Avelar, dropping him in the early third round before a decisive left hook ended the fight.
“I’m so excited for this fight. I’ve been training since July 1. I’ve been well-prepared and strong,” Magsayo shared, emphasizing his readiness.
Magsayo, now 25-2 with 17 knockouts, attributes his move to the 130-pound division for increased punching power. He aims for more experience in the weight class, aspiring to secure another world title shot.
Avelar, unconscious for several minutes, left the ring with medical assistance. In a parallel success, Lienard “The Matrix” Sarcon made a triumphant United States debut, out-pointing American Frank Gonzalez on the same card.
