President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed justice for the 34 missing cockfighting enthusiasts, or sabungeros, and promised to punish those responsible, regardless of wealth, influence, or government ties.
In his fourth State of the Nation Address, Marcos said the government is working together to investigate the syndicates allegedly behind the abductions and killings.
Whistle-blower Julie “Totoy” Patindongan accused gambling tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang of ordering the murders due to alleged cheating in online cockfighting.
While skeletal remains have been found in Taal Lake, their connection to the missing individuals has yet to be confirmed.
Marcos, however, did not address broader concerns about online gambling, which faces growing opposition from lawmakers and religious groups.
