The Department of Public Works and Highways will begin the first phase of the long-delayed rehabilitation of EDSA starting late Wednesday night, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make the highway safer for all road users.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said concrete reblocking works will start at 11 p.m. on both northbound and southbound lanes and run until Dec. 27, with asphalt overlay works to follow.
The schedule was timed to coincide with the Christmas break, when traffic is expected to be lighter, allowing faster work at lower cost.
Reblocking will cover selected inner lanes in Pasay City, from P. Celle Street to Roxas Boulevard and other sections, while asphalt overlay works are set in areas such as Orense, Magallanes, and Tramo.
Motorists were advised to take alternate routes as DPWH prepares to release an updated repair schedule from Dec. 28, 2025, to Jan. 5, 2026.
