President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will join a trilateral phone call with US President Joe Biden and Japan Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on January 12, months after their historic summit in Washington.
The meeting, confirmed by the White House and Marcos’ Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez, comes amid growing concerns over China’s actions in the South China Sea, including the recent deployment of a controversial “monster ship.”
The summit earlier this year focused on defense and economic cooperation, with a strong emphasis on opposing China’s maritime activities.
The agenda for the phone call has yet to be disclosed, but it is expected to build on their previous discussions on regional security and economic collaboration.
