President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte did not issue messages for the 41st death anniversary of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
The date, August 21, is officially Ninoy Aquino Day, commemorating the assassination of the late senator in 1983, which triggered the Edsa People Power Revolution in 1986.
This year, Marcos moved the observance to August 23 to create a long weekend, aligning it with National Heroes’ Day on August 26. Although Marcos commemorated Aquino’s death anniversary in 2023, calling him an example of “relentlessness and resolve,” he has not yet issued a statement for this year.
Vice President Duterte has not issued a statement on Ninoy Aquino Day since taking office in 2023, and it remains unclear if she will do so this year.
