The Philippine National Police Health Service is conducting a medical examination on Rodante Marcoleta to determine whether he is physically fit to stand trial after his arrest on plunder charges.
Health officials said Marcoleta is being monitored for chest and nape pain and has undergone laboratory tests, the results of which will determine if further medical procedures are necessary.
Jonvic Remulla said the full medical evaluation could take up to two days due to the senator’s age.
Marcoleta was arrested along with former lawmaker Mike Defensor and businessmen Aristotle Viray and Joseph Espiritu after the Sandiganbayan Third Division issued warrants for their arrest.
He has also undergone standard booking procedures at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group while awaiting the outcome of his medical assessment.
