MARBIL CALLS FOR INCREASED VIGILANCE AHEAD OF COC FILING DEADLINE

Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has urged police units nationwide to enhance security measures and remain vigilant against potential disruptions as the deadline for filing certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2025 midterm elections approaches.

Marbil emphasized the critical role of law enforcement in ensuring a secure and fair environment for candidates and the public amid a heated political climate.

He directed intensified security operations, particularly in traditional election hotspots known for heightened tensions and violence.

The police plan to implement additional measures, including increased visibility, checkpoints, and enhanced intelligence monitoring in vulnerable areas.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) introduced its new mascot, “Acie,” and theme song, “Makabagong Halalan Para sa Makabagong Pilipino,” to engage voters and promote transparency in the upcoming elections, funded personally by Comelec Chairman George Garcia.
