Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has prioritized cleaning up the city’s streets, bureaucracy, and finances, revealing that Manila inherited P10.2 billion in debt under former Mayor Honey Lacuna.
He highlighted unpaid obligations to garbage collection firms totaling nearly P950 million, prompting a public health emergency, and reported a 9.2% increase in crime solution efficiency under his administration.
Domagoso also unveiled a 10-year “Street Smart Governance” plan focusing on cleanliness, traffic management, and public safety.
After the flood control scam involving DPWH officials and contractors, he urged the national government to transfer flood control operations to local units, citing substandard or nonfunctional pumping stations like Sunog Apog in Tondo.
Manila has collected P93.64 million in contractors’ taxes, though contractors still owe P127.28 million, underscoring ongoing accountability and infrastructure challenges.
