Pope Francis will not be visiting Manila during his upcoming apostolic journey from September 3 to 13, which will include stops in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, and Singapore.
Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, explained that the Pope is focusing on countries he has not yet visited, especially those on the peripheries, as he had already visited the Philippines in 2015.
Bishop David noted that the Pope’s age makes the trip to these four nations particularly challenging.
He urged the faithful to pray for the success of the papal visit, which the host countries are eagerly anticipating.
Pope Francis will be joined on the trip by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the Vatican’s Pro-Prefect for the Section of Evangelization of the Dicastery for Evangelization.
