Manila Mayor Isko Moreno signed Executive Order 7, directing city departments to cut fuel consumption by 50 percent amid concerns over potential oil supply disruptions from the Middle East conflict.
The EO targets vehicles, generators, and other fuel-powered equipment, while prohibiting non-essential travel and suspending educational and foreign trips unless critical.
Offices are also instructed to conserve electricity by turning off lights by 5 p.m., and meetings will be conducted online when possible.
Essential services such as police, fire, health, garbage collection, and traffic management are exempted, while violations of the order will face administrative penalties.
Moreno emphasized that the measures aim to maintain essential public services and limit Manila’s exposure to rising fuel prices until supply stabilizes.
